{"id":7501,"date":"2020-03-20T13:57:05","date_gmt":"2020-03-20T13:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/fcpr.org\/?page_id=7501"},"modified":"2020-03-20T15:40:22","modified_gmt":"2020-03-20T15:40:22","slug":"our-history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.fcpr.org\/en\/our-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Our History"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>WHO WE ARE <\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Puerto Rico Community Foundation<\/strong> (FCPR) is an independent tax-exempt entity pursuant to the provisions of Section 501(c) (3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended, and Section 1101.01(a) (2) of the Puerto Rico Internal Revenue Code of 2011, as amended. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FCPR ONE PAGE <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since 1984, the FCPR has allowed donors to contribute with the development of Puerto Rican communities. Individuals, families, corporations, and foundations have found the ideal philanthropic partner in the FCPR, to facilitate their support to the causes that matter to them the most, through the establishment, custody, and administration of funds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Furthermore, FCPR\u2019s community knowledge has enabled the institution to design programs that respond to community needs and opportunities with grants, technical assistance and capacity building. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since Hurricane Mar\u00eda, its strategic plan promotes and strengthens equitable access to potable water, renewable energy, social housing, community economic development and education, among other areas of interest. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, the PRCF plays multiple roles such as: grant-maker;\ngrant-seeker, program administrator; philanthropic leader, community convener,\nfund manager and custodian of the community endowment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>BRIEF HISTORY <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea of establishing a community foundation in Puerto Rico did not originate in Puerto Rico. It arose, instead, from the Puerto Rican community in the United States. It was born during a forum sponsored by the National Puerto Rican Coalition (NPRC), a nonprofit organization run by Puerto Ricans in the United States. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The idea received great support from the Puerto Rican diaspora and foundations in the United States. Ford Foundation (Susan Berresford), Carnegie Corporation (Bernard Charles), Rockefeller Foundation (Bruce Williams), Charles Stewart Mott, and MacArthur Foundation supported the establishment of a community foundation that would mobilize local and international resources to facilitate grants to the community and nonprofit organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The FCPR is the first community foundation in Puerto Rico\nand the Caribbean, and today the only one in Puerto Rico. It belongs to a\nnetwork of over 1,600 that exist around the world. The Foundation has awarded\nmore than $58 million in grants, awards, scholarships, training and technical\nassistance in the areas of education, housing, economic development and\ncommunities, among others.&nbsp; <em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>MISSION <\/strong>To develop Puerto Rico communities\u2019 capacity to achieve their social and economic transformation; maximize philanthropic investment and the social and economic yield of each contribution.&nbsp; <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><strong>VISION <\/strong>Be the engine that leads the community\u2019s transformation by increasing community capitals.
