San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 25, 2018<\/strong>\u00a0| The\u00a0Puerto Rico Community Foundation (PRCF)<\/strong>\u00a0delivered today $95,000 in recovery donations to 140 students from public and private universities, thanks to a contribution from\u00a0Hispanic Federation<\/strong>\u00a0upon establishing the Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Hurricane Relief Fund, administered by the FCPR. The purpose of the Fund is to enable students to recover from losses caused by Hurricanes Irma and Maria so they can continue their university studies.<\/p>\n

The aid arriving just before the start of the new school year will provide students with financial relief. \u201cI received a donation from the Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Hurricane Relief Fund. I want to thank them for it. I will be using it for the documentation and processing of my professional license since I graduated with a bachelor's degree (in Nursing from the Metropolitan University of Puerto Rico, Cupey Campus) in May,\u201d shared Grace M. Matos Rivera, from Toa Baja and recipient of a $500 donation from the Hispanic Federation.<\/p>\n

The aid was distributed as follows: 46 received $250; thirty-two, $500; twenty-three, $750; fifteen, $1,000; three, 1,250; and twenty-one, $1,500. Of the 140, 39 suffered severe damage including loss of structural integrity, personal property, or family income.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is through collaborations with organizations like FCPR that we can ensure our help reaches the greatest number of Puerto Ricans. Investing in the future of these students is an investment in a better future for Puerto Rico, and we thank FCPR for allowing us to be part of this effort,\u201d said Jos\u00e9 Calder\u00f3n, president of Hispanic Federation.<\/p>\n

After the delivery, Calder\u00f3n announced via a call that the non-profit organization will contribute $200,000 to the Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Hurricane Relief Fund to continue supporting students in Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n

The FCPR reactivated the Community Recovery Fund for Puerto Rico in response to the aftermath of the hurricanes. This led to community and private foundations, corporations, individuals, and others establishing funds for grants through the foundation's philanthropic structure. One of these institutions was the Hispanic Federation, a non-profit organization founded in 1990 dedicated to providing support to Hispanic families and strengthening Latino organizations working in education, health, migration, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and the environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are honored that the Hispanic Federation placed their trust in our institution to manage the process of supporting these young students. There is still

The Puerto Rico Community Recovery Fund has reached $$12.5 million and its donations are being distributed through projects for water access, renewable energy, housing, education, and economic development.<\/p>\n

About the Puerto Rico Community Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0The FCPR is a non-profit entity that for over 32 years has advised individuals, families, corporations, and foundations on and off the island on how to channel their philanthropic concerns. The advisory aims to ensure that donors' contributions have an impact on the self-development of Puerto Ricans. Additionally, the FCPR has a programmatic area for annual projects resulting from current needs in our communities. San Juan, Puerto Rico, July 25, 2018<\/strong>\u00a0The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR, for its initials in Spanish) today bestowed $$95,000 in recovery donations to 140 students from public and private universities, thanks to a contribution from the Hispanic Federation to establish the Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Hurricane Relief Fund, administered by the FCPR. The Fund\u2019s goal is to help students recover from losses caused by hurricanes Irma and Mar\u00eda so they can continue their college studies.<\/p>\n
