The Foundation has selected 19 organizations across 10 states and Puerto Rico as national models to scale evidence-based initiatives to reduce youth violence, develop effective mentorship programs, and significantly improve the lives of boys and young men of color. There are ten winning \u201cNational Impact Communities\u201d and nine \u00abSeed Communities.\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>The winning communities represent all regions of the country, strong public-private partnerships, and a diverse range of cities, rural areas, Tribal Nations, and neighborhoods of all sizes. The winning organizations will share more than $15 million in grants, direct technical assistance, and evaluation support. Youth and leaders from many of the organizations will participate in the Obama Foundation\u2019s 2018 Summit in Chicago on November 18\u201319.<\/p>\n<p>The MBK Alliance also announced that it will host MBK Ascend!, its first national convening. MBK Ascend! will bring together the growing network of MBK Communities and young people of color-serving organizations, young people of color, elected officials, and cross-sector leaders to join President Obama to celebrate progress, highlight what works, and elevate youth voices.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting will take place in Oakland, California, in February 2019, to mark the fifth anniversary of President Obama\u2019s initial launch of My Brother's Keeper. My Brother's Keeper Oakland, My Brother's Keeper, and Sisterhood San Francisco will co-chair the host committee. MBK Ascend! is by invitation only, but interested young people and professionals working to address aligned issues can review the application information at <a href=\"http:\/\/obama.org\/mbka\/rising\/\">obama.org\/mbka\/rising\/<\/a>. Through this effort, and through our ongoing relationship with all MBK communities, we are committed to accelerating progress and spurring action across the country.\u201c<\/p>\n<p><strong>The impacted communities will receive:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two-year commitment led by the MBK Alliance and implementing partners to identify gaps and assets, develop recommendations, and support an implementation plan;<\/li>\n<li>Access to implementation partners and content to advise on the global development of the \u201cLocal Action Plan\u201d and the long-term infrastructure to sustain the work;<\/li>\n<li>Between $100,000 and $500,000 in Phase 1 through Phase 4 funding for more than two years to replicate or scale up mentoring or youth violence prevention programs; and<\/li>\n<li>$50,000\u2013$75,000 per year for two years in grant funds to support organizations in hiring MBK Alliance Community Coordinators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Seed communities and organizations will receive<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Access to MBK Alliance implementation partners and content to advise on the development of the master plan and long-term infrastructure to sustain the work; and<\/li>\n<li>$50,000 for pilot interventions in violence prevention and\/or mentoring for a subpopulation of children and youth of color in the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As Chicago is the hometown of the Obama Foundation, the MBK Alliance will invest in an overall planning and engagement process in Chicago, as well as a unique cohort model of five organizations, including one Impact winner and four Seed Communities, that are advancing innovative solutions for young men in the South, West, and Southwest sides of the city. La Fundaci\u00f3n Obama recibi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 100 solicitudes de todo el territorio continental de los Estados Unidos y Puerto Rico de cerca de 1,000 solicitantes registrados. El enfoque estrat\u00e9gico de la Fundaci\u00f3n para 2018 es ampliar el acceso a los recursos sociales, econ\u00f3micos y naturales para la recuperaci\u00f3n y renovaci\u00f3n de la comunidad despu\u00e9s del hurac\u00e1n Mar\u00eda. Los objetivos de la Fundaci\u00f3n se dividen en seis iniciativas estrat\u00e9gicas: alimentos y agua, energ\u00eda y medio ambiente, vivienda, educaci\u00f3n, desarrollo econ\u00f3mico y filantrop\u00eda. La Fundaci\u00f3n tambi\u00e9n dirigi\u00f3 la coordinaci\u00f3n de la respuesta formal de Puerto Rico al Reto Comunitario MBK original emitido por la Casa Blanca en 2014.<\/p>\n<h3>SOBRE EL PROYECTO<\/h3>\n<p>La Fundaci\u00f3n Comunitaria de Puerto Rico financiar\u00e1 la Alianza Lo\u00edza para la Paz, una colaboraci\u00f3n entre organizaciones comunitarias que prestan servicios a los j\u00f3venes que participaron en el proceso de planificaci\u00f3n de MBK 2015-16 de la Fundaci\u00f3n. A trav\u00e9s de esfuerzos concertados que se remontan a casi 10 a\u00f1os, las organizaciones que componen la alianza brindan tutor\u00eda para la prevenci\u00f3n de la violencia, negociaci\u00f3n, desarrollo de la fuerza laboral y oportunidades educativas para ni\u00f1os, j\u00f3venes y hombres de color en el pueblo de Lo\u00edza..<\/p>\n<p>La Fundaci\u00f3n se compromete a involucrar a la alianza en su conjunto, actuando como su patrocinador fiscal y combinando los fondos de la Competencia Reto Comunitario MBK. El programa es una expansi\u00f3n del Acuerdo de Paz de Taller Salud, el \u00fanico programa terciario de prevenci\u00f3n de la violencia en la comunidad de Puerto Rico.&nbsp;&nbsp;Acuerdo de Paz es una adaptaci\u00f3n local del modelo de salud p\u00fablica basado en la evidencia de CureViolence (Curar la Violencia) de la Universidad de Illinois, en el que la violencia se entiende como una enfermedad social.<\/p>\n<p>El programa surgi\u00f3 de los esfuerzos basados en la comunidad para responder a un aumento de la violencia con armas de fuego en 2009. Los interruptores de violencia est\u00e1n capacitados para detectar reclamos e intervenir para evitar que ocurra un evento violento. Los interruptores son mentores que llevan una carga de trabajo de 15 participantes con alto riesgo de cometer o ser v\u00edctimas de un acto violento.
