The initiative will allow them to reinforce the\nstrategies they use to meet the objective of reducing violence between\ncommunities in Lo\u00edza. The Alliance is among Fundaci\u00f3n Comunitaria de Puerto\nRico (FCPR), the Municipality of Lo\u00edza, Nuestra Escuela and Taller Salud. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Alliance is very grateful for the collaboration that\nthe Law School offers us to strengthen the human capital of the members of this philanthropic initiative.\nphilanthropic initiative. In community settings, Alliance staff respond to\nunforeseen needs, which require immediate responses, so they must have creative\nresources at their disposal, such as those provided by this training for the\ninterruption of violence\u00bb, said the president of the FCPR, Dr. Nelson I. Col\u00f3n Tarrats.\nCol\u00f3n Tarrats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Alliance is a\nproject of the FCPR, under the Obama Foundation's MyBrother's Keeper Community Challenge\nChallenge initiative. It also has the philanthropic support of W.K. Kellogg\nFoundation, National Basketball Players Association Foundation (NBPAF), and The Prospect Hill Foundation.\nProspect Hill Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Law School is\nvery excited about this opportunity to serve as an educational vehicle for the members of the Alliance.\nmembers of the Alliance. We believe in conflict mediation as a strategy for\npeace and we have academic resources that master it perfectly. So we are\nhonored to be able to contribute to this project of equity and social justice for the communities of Lo\u00edza.\nfor the communities of Lo\u00edza\u201d, said Vivian Neptune Rivera, dean of the Law\nSchool of the UPR. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The course will last\n25 hours, will start tomorrow, Saturday, February 8, and will benefit 15 people\nwho work in the institutions that make up the Alliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another objective of\nthis project is to provide educational and employment alternatives to the young\nparticipants, who are between 15 and 30 years old and are neighbors of Pueblo,\nMedian\u00eda Baja and Median\u00eda Alta neighborhoods -communities with personal and family\nfamily fights that limit that some of these may leave their environment so as not to put their\nnot to put their security at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The topics that will\nbe addressed in the training - which uses concepts from the Restorative Justice\nmodel, with which we are currently working to interrupt violence - will help\nstaff to: identify factors that may help or challenges them in dealing with a\nconflict situation; use immediate strategies and best practices to respond to interpersonal\nto interpersonal conflicts; increase their ability to identify and manage their own personal prejudice\nown personal prejudice; and obtain a professional tool to minimize burnout\nresulting from efforts to reduce normalized violent behavior. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Conflict Mediation\nProgram is run by Dr. Mildred Negr\u00f3n Mart\u00ednez and was structured by the\nContinuing Legal Education Program of the UPR Law School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The My Brother's Keeper\nCommunity Challenge initiative will be implemented over a two year period,\nending in December 2020. By then, it is expected to reduce incidents of\nviolence in the municipality; increase the number of young people who have\ncompleted their fourth year of High School; and increase the number of young\npeople active in a formal employment experience.
