At the Puerto Rico Community Foundation, we work not only with the establishment, administration, and custody of funds but also with the design and implementation of annual projects that are generated in the Program Area. The 2018 work plan added renewable energy and potable water to the Foundation's already traditional areas of interest: community economic development, affordable housing, and education. The new areas of interest emerged from lessons learned after Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. Both atmospheric phenomena revealed a Puerto Rico with communities lacking equitable access to potable water and renewable energy resources.

FCPR Community Director, Álida Rivera, shares with residents of Loíza and Indesovi staff during a visit to this coastal town, where along with the Ricky Martin Foundation, 37 homes affected by Hurricane Maria are being rebuilt.

We decided to close the gap of inequity in our communities through grants, support, and technical assistance to non-profit and community organizations working in these areas to provide sustainable solutions and promote community activation.
