The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (PRCF) has announced the opening of the call for applications for the Juan Marqués Mera Scholarship, The event is an opportunity for students of the School of Architecture of the Río Piedras Campus of the University of Puerto Rico who wish to enrich their academic training through travel experiences related to architecture.
The scholarship is designed to facilitate learning experiences that include visits to cities with architectural legacies, tours of emblematic projects, participation in specialized conferences or seminars, as well as other initiatives related to areas such as historic preservation, landscaping, interior design and urban contexts.
Through this initiative, the Foundation seeks to promote transformative experiences that strengthen the academic preparation of the country's future architects and promote the application of the knowledge acquired for the benefit of Puerto Rico's cultural and professional development.
The scholarship consists of a supplementary financial aid that can reach up to $2,000, The scholarship, subject to the availability of funds, is intended exclusively to cover expenses associated with an academic trip related to architecture. The trip must take place within one year of the award of the scholarship.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a permanent resident of Puerto Rico.
- Be enrolled as a regular full-time student at the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus.
- Have completed at least two years of studies in the architecture program.
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale).
- Demonstrate financial need.
