The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (PRCF) announced the opening of the Alfonso López Chaar and Erica Ivers de López Fund, an initiative that will award annual scholarships to students residing in the municipality of Dorado interested in pursuing post-secondary studies in areas of high labor demand and with a vocation for public service.
The Fund will provide supplementary financial assistance up to $1,250 per year per student, The scholarship will be awarded in two disbursements, subject to the availability of funds. The scholarship will be awarded in two disbursements, conditional upon completion of academic progress and full-time enrollment.
The initiative is aimed at graduation candidates of the José S. Alegría High School, residents of Dorado, who have been admitted to undergraduate programs at accredited institutions in Puerto Rico.
The Fund prioritizes high-demand disciplines that contribute to public service, including:
- Teaching (Education)
- Criminology
- Criminal Justice
- Nursing
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a resident of the town of Dorado.
- To be a candidate for graduation from the José S. Alegría High School in the municipality of Dorado.
- Minimum academic index of 3.00
- Full academic load (12 credits)
- Evidence of community leadership
