Within the framework of International Migrants Day, held last Monday, December 18, according to the United Nations (UN), we highlight that the fight for racial equity extends beyond the national population of each country. The fight for racial equity must include migrants and the challenges they face. The injustices that migrants suffer, related to their skin color or ethnic origin, deserve urgent attention and action.
To understand the challenges faced when leaving their home countries, it is essential to consider the historical context of racial inequality and systemic racism. Many migrant communities are disproportionately affected by the legacies of colonialism, imperialism, and economic exploitation. The intersectionality of race, along with class and immigration status, hinders the pursuit of racial equity, creating a complex web of discrimination. Some manifestations of injustice against migrants include xenophobia, racial profiling, and discriminatory immigration policies. These are manifestations that dehumanize migrants.
To combat these realities, We suggest promoting the inclusion of the challenges faced by migrants in local and international anti-racist movements.
Por one part, to the recognize the experiences of migrants and incorporate their voices In anti-racist discourse, the general anti-racist narrative is strengthened.
Por On the other hand, by addressing the various challenges faced by migrant and marginalized groups, it ensures that the efforts to achieve racial equity be intersectional.
We also suggest promoting policy changes that prioritize human rights and inclusivity; reforms in migration policies, the fight against xenophobia in education, and the fostering of cooperation.
The intersection between racial equality and the injustices faced by migrants, related to their skin color or ethnic origin, requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach. The goal? For society to move towards a future where racial equity is a reality for everyone, including migrants, whose contributions are recognized and celebrated on this day.
