The Gualasia Scholarship Fund administered by the Puerto Rico Community Foundation (PRCF)- offers a unique opportunity for students who, in addition to needing financial aid, show leadership, community involvement and passion for their studies.

The purpose of this fund is to provide supplemental financial aid to students from Jayuya or Utuado pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in agriculture or education. It also seeks to foster the formation of STEM-focused agricultural professionals and educators committed to the transformation of their communities, and to raise awareness among young people of their academic potential and their ability to actively contribute to the socioeconomic development of Puerto Rico.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident of Puerto Rico, coming from the town of Jayuya or Utuado.
  • Be enrolled at the undergraduate or graduate level in an accredited institution, in or out of Puerto Rico, in the following disciplines:
    • Students from Jayuya or Utuado: Careers in agricultural sciences, agricultural genetics, biotechnology or related fields.
    • Jayuya students: Careers in pedagogy, with interest in integrating the STEM approach in their educational practices.
  • Academic Performance (minimum required index):
    • 2.50 or higher (on a scale of 4.00)
  • Have a full academic load:
    • 12 credits (undergraduate)
    • 9 credits (graduate)
  • Demonstrate financial need.
  • Demonstrate leadership and community engagement through extracurricular activities and volunteerism.
  • Be available for an interview with the evaluation committee.
  • Timely Delivery of Documents
