The economic support opportunity recently benefited the first two scholarship recipients of the fund, established by Sol Puerto Rico Limited.

The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR) opened the second scholarship call for Sol Puerto Rico Limited Fund for students pursuing careers related to the automotive industry, on or off the Island. In this way, it celebrates the success of the first call, which recently culminated in the awarding of two scholarships. The new initiative is driven by Sol Puerto Rico Limited, fuel distributor Shell and lubricants Shell y Pennzoil on the island.

In early 2018, Sol Puerto Rico Limited established Sol Puerto Rico Limited Fund at the FCPR to support local talent and raise awareness among its scholarship recipients about their competitive edge, while encouraging them to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the island. Through this fund, on April 26, the company awarded the first two $ scholarships, each worth 2,000 pesos, to Laura Goitía Rodríguez and Adrián Abreu Valentín, first-year students in mechanical engineering at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, and in Advanced Automotive Mechanical Technology at AutoMeca Technical College, Aguadilla Campus, respectively. “Thank you to Sol Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Community Foundation for not leaving us alone on this journey,” shared Laura Goitía Rodríguez. For his part, Adrián Abreu Valentín advised other students “not to lose hope.”.

“We feel very fortunate to be able to help these two young people in their educational endeavor. We reiterate our commitment to the education and well-being of our future automotive mechanics professionals. That is why, this year, we want to continue helping more young people achieve their goal of obtaining an educational degree and to continue driving Puerto Rico forward,” expressed Mayra Blancovich, Marketing Coordinator of Sol Puerto Rico Limited.

The new call for applications closes on June 14, 2019. It is available for students interested in professional development in the automotive industry, whether through associate degrees, technical careers, or bachelor's degrees at accredited institutions within or outside of Puerto Rico.
