November 9, 2020, PONCE, P.R. - Destilería Serrallés, Inc..The disbursement and distribution of donations to 37 non-profit organizations that participated in the call for donations issued by Serrallés Foundation to provide essential services to victims of the earthquakes and earthquakes that have occurred in the south and southwest areas of Puerto Rico since January 7, 2020. The funds are part of the corporate contribution of $1 million announced recently by the company.

Proposals received and evaluated included a range of diverse services to families and groups including medical services, support for specific health conditions, as well as mental and emotional support services for children, adults and senior citizens. Educational programs were also received for art and dance workshops for children, equine therapy workshops, art and dance for trauma management and stress reduction, as well as community debris removal projects, among others.

“Through these grants, Fundación Serrallés has amplified the radius of relief and services to families and communities affected by this unprecedented natural disaster, which has been exacerbated by the constant seismic episodes since January and the aggravating factors as a result of the pandemic,” he said. Following the call for applications, the Serrallés Foundation selected the Puerto Rico Community Foundation, The administration of the fund, including the receipt, management and evaluation of proposals for available assistance funds. 

“We are very proud that a Puerto Rican company such as Destilería Serrallés activated so quickly to address the effects of the earthquakes in the southern area of Puerto Rico; that it then took into consideration what organizations were doing to address and contain COVID-19, and that the Puerto Rico Community Foundation was able to facilitate a large part of that process. For the past years we have seen a Puerto Rico with great needs, but also a Puerto Rico in which its inhabitants have risen up to say present from their different platforms, to alleviate, educate, contain and give an air of hope. Today we join Serrallés to validate that hope is in our communities, which are activated to address their own needs and for their self-development,” said Dr. Nelson I. Colón, president and chief executive officer of the Puerto Rico Community Foundation. 

The project impacted 37 projects in 24 towns in the south and southwest, and the programs selected to receive the grants will be providing services to more than 25,000 citizens in the affected areas. The company also provided financial assistance to company employees whose homes were damaged by the earthquakes so that they could safely repair and/or rebuild their homes. 

Following the arrival of COVID-19, Destilería Serrallés stepped forward to donate disinfectant alcohol to the entire health and first response sector, including hospitals, medical services to patients with special health conditions, first responders throughout the country, and non-profit entities. The company distributed 70,000 gallons of alcohol in Puerto Rico for 8 weeks in response to the shortage of the disinfectant in the midst of the pandemic. “Since the beginning of the year, the company has been very active in supporting earthquake victims, communities at risk and our employees. 2020 has been a year of multiple challenges, and in the face of the crisis we sought solutions to extend relief to communities and families in vulnerable situations.
