The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR) is convinced that the challenges unleashed by recent events in the executive and legislative branches have presented an opportunity to identify solutions to collective problems from and for the communities, without waiting for government action. The imperative need to order and stabilize the island's governance is indisputable, as the current uncertainty will cause further delay in cash flow for many of the non-profit organizations that provide direct service to the community. However, government paralysis does not imply community stagnation.

While the governmental crisis aggravates the shortage of public services, communities -represented or supported by community-based and non-profit organizations- continue working on the development of permanent solutions to the most pressing problems; as occurred during hurricanes Irma and Maria. The development of endogenous solutions such as community aqueducts, solar communities, low-income housing, the development of incubators that generate businesses and jobs, and support for education through mini-grants to teachers, have emerged collaboratively between the communities and the Foundation, whose strategic plan strengthens them.

FCPR continues to support the development of our communities, working to strengthen strategies and develop new ones, all anchored in the pillar of equity.
