Governor Vázquez Garced and the executive director of COR3 announced that FEMA has approved $1,425,000 to launch a mitigation project that will benefit more than 200 communities (Press release published by La Fortaleza).
(May 15, 2020 – La Fortaleza, San Juan) – Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and Ottmar Chávez, executive director of the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction, and Resilience (COR3), reported that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) approved the allocation of $1,425,000 for the first phase of a project under the Risk Mitigation Grant Program, which aims to benefit 242 communities in various municipalities across the island.
«This risk mitigation obligation is the first to be undertaken by a private non-profit entity. Without a doubt, it is an ambitious project, but with an extraordinary contribution to all the communities that will benefit. Likewise, this promotes the generation of alternative strategies for providing basic services,” said Vázquez Garced.
This mitigation project, accomplished and presented by the philanthropic institution Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico (FCPR, by its Spanish acronym), consists of providing a generation and solar energy system to 242 nonprofit community organizations in rural areas of 44 municipalities that operate water systems alternative to those of the Aqueduct and Sewer Authority.
