The Model Forest Trust (FBMPR) established the Fund for the Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Puerto Rico Model Forest, to be administered by Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico (FCPR), with the purpose of making social investments in projects that promote the conservation and sustainable development of the BMPR’s footprint.[prisna-wp-translate-dont-translate][/prisna-wp-translate-dont-translate]
The chairman of the FBMPR Board of Trustees, Carlos Enrique Pacheco Irizarry, stated that the new fund was established in accordance with the provisions governing the institution under the Model Forest Act of Puerto Rico (Law No. 182-2014).
“This is a crucial step that takes the Puerto Rico Model Forest into a new phase because it will allow us to support social projects that promote the generation of new knowledge and sustainable socioeconomic development, creating a green economy and green jobs across the 31 municipalities that make up the forest,” said engineer Pacheco Irizarry.

He mentioned that the Trust selected Fundación Comunitaria as the fund’s administrator because of its long and successful track record in this type of role and because it will also help the institution secure additional funds to increase its capacity to promote more projects.
The CEO of FCPR, Dr. Nelson I. Colón Tarrats, explained that the investment is expected to be allocated to scientific research or business development projects related to the conservation and sustainable development of the Model Forest’s footprint. The public call for proposals is expected to be launched during the second half of the year so that funds can be awarded by the end of this year or early 2019.
“We are extremely pleased to be part of this initiative that provides hope for the peoples of the Model Forest corridor and to be able to contribute to the sustainable development of our resources, education, and job creation,” mentioned Colón Tarrats.
