Programmatic approaches

The goal of the Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR) is to build equity, social justice and community prosperity by strengthening community capital: human, social, ecological, financial, physical and cultural. Each of these is identified and strengthened in our current strategic focuses: water, solar energy, economic development, gender and racial equity, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

We do this through of grants, technical assistance, training, and training and financing. In addition, convening to generate knowledge and opportunities; connecting to strengthen networks and stimulate social capital; and amplifying experiences and lessons learned from working with communities.

FINANCIAL CAPITAL The promotion of financial capital occurs when opportunities arise to generate new sources of funds, income and employment in the community. It also includes the income generated by a social enterprise, as well as financing for microenterprises. PHYSICAL CAPITAL The increase in physical capital occurs when infrastructure is developed within an organization for the realization of a certain project. HUMAN CAPITAL Access to training, courses, coaching and skills development allows us to increase the human capital in our communities. In addition, the development of job skills in members of a community.

CAPITAL STOCK The growth of social capital occurs when the development or expansion of networks, collaboration agreements or alliances with other community, governmental or private entities is promoted. It is also achieved through citizen empowerment and participation. ENVIRONMENTAL CAPITAL Environmental capital refers to the expansion and conservation of environmental resources or the development of a philosophy of environmentally sustainable development. It also includes the protection or restoration of ecological and historical resources, and community outreach activities or services. CULTURAL CAPITAL Cultural capital is promoted through education and the dissemination of historical and cultural heritage. It also includes the development of its economic potential.
