The Puerto Rico Community Foundation announced this second economic opportunity from the Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Relief Fund

San Juan, October 22, 2018 | The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR) announced today the opening of the second call for proposals for Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Relief Fund. The Fund that was established by Hispanic Federation At the end of 2017, this occasion will focus on providing supplementary financial aid to university students facing economic hardship or material losses related to the September 2017 hurricanes. Applications from university students will be accepted until November 9, 2018.

Last July, the The Fund awarded $95,000 in emergency and recovery grants to 140 students enrolled in 38 public and private universities on the Island and residents of 52 towns. The financial aid was intended to promote the continuation of their studies after they suffered economic losses related to both hurricanes.

“We are very grateful for the trust Hispanic Federation placed in us to carry out a second round of financial support for university students. The experience we had with the first round of distributions showed us that there is still a great need among our young university students. We are greatly satisfied that we can collaborate in this process to support our youth,” said Dr. Nelson I. Colón Tarrats, Executive Director of the FCPR.

Students interested in applying must be permanent residents of Puerto Rico, be enrolled full-time at an educational institution or university in Puerto Rico during the 2018-2019 academic year, and demonstrate economic need and consistent academic progress (2.00+).

“When we had the opportunity to hear the stories of just a sample of the 140 students benefiting from the first round of Hispanic Federation Puerto Rico Recovery and Relief Fund, ”We knew we had to continue this effort not only for the well-being of our young students, but for the well-being of Puerto Rico's future," said José Calderón, president of Hispanic Federation.

Hispanic Federation is a non-profit organization founded in 1990, dedicated to providing support to Hispanic families and strengthening Latino organizations in areas such as education, health, migration, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and the environment. Support is provided through information, referrals, and direct services to the Hispanic community.
