San Juan, Puerto Rico, April 29, 2020 | The Puerto Rico Community Foundation (FCPR) announced today that it has become the fiscal sponsor of the multidisciplinary group COVID19 Wisdom Coalition of Puerto Rico (COSACO). The relationship strengthens the educational strategy outlined by the recently created group, made up of renowned health and other professionals, which seeks to disseminate consensus-based and reliable information about the coronavirus in order to save lives. The fiscal sponsorship will allow COSACO to receive financial donations from individuals and companies in Puerto Rico and the United States.

“In response to the pandemic, the Puerto Rico Community Foundation is implementing a community strategy to prevent and contain the spread of the coronavirus among the elderly population through our community partners: community health clinics and grassroots organizations. Part of that prevention is achieved through accurate, timely and accessible education, a goal we share with COSACO,” said Dr. Nelson I. Colón Tarrats, president of the PRCF and COSACO's philanthropic advisor.

COSACO, led by Dr. Jaime Claudio, is composed of a group of health specialists who decided to organize themselves after the arrival of COVID-19 to the island in order to provide educational information on how to individually and collectively face the challenges of this health crisis. COSACO becomes a public platform to bring the most accurate information to Puerto Rican families.

“COSACO is focused on adding our collaboration to the pandemic response through information that generates wise citizen decisions. We have developed a series of tools to be able to aggregate this knowledge and bring it to Puerto Rico so that together we can save lives. As we emerge as a solidarity effort, we are very excited to have the support of the Fundación Comunitaria, a non-profit organization with an unblemished philanthropic record. We are convinced that together we can make a difference, defeat this pandemic and emerge stronger as human beings and collaborators of this planet,” said Dr. Jaime Claudio, president of COSACO and professor of Medicine and Family at the University of Puerto Rico (UPR).
