The initiative is being worked on by the Rockefeller Foundation, Rocky Mountain Institute, Foundation for Puerto Rico, and Resilient Power Puerto Rico.
Rockefeller Foundation, Rocky Mountain Institute, Fundación Comunitaria de Puerto Rico, and Resilient Power Puerto Rico are working together on the Puerto Rico Community Energy Resilience Fund to promote energy security in vulnerable communities to climate change. We are looking for collaborators to participate in a program to strengthen community resilience in Puerto Rico.
The Puerto Rico Community Energy Resilience Fund It seeks to reduce financing barriers and increase local capacities for access to renewable energy. Selected facilities will receive a tailored financing offer tied to their needs; training on climate change and renewable energy; and technical assistance for the installation, operation, and maintenance of a solar energy generation and storage system.
In the long term, our goal is to increase the availability of renewable, clean, and resilient energy sources for sustainable community development and to ensure the continuity of services y Essential products during emergencies and power outages.
WHAT IS A CRITICAL FACILITY?
A critical installation is a business or community organization that provides essential services for life and therefore requires continuity of operations, especially during and after natural disasters.
These services include:
- Emergency management services (medical, natural hazards)
- public protection and safety
- support for vulnerable or dependent populations
- Financial services
- supply of essential products and services
OBJECTIVES
- Foment the coordination among organizations non-profit and private sector to strengthen the energy resilience of vulnerable communities in Puerto Rico
- Boost the capital philanthropic and to facilitate access to affordable financing for critical facilities
- Promote the equitable distribution of philanthropic support for energy resilience in Puerto Rico
- Support the capacity building in the management of renewable energy resources and sharing lessons learned for sustainable community development
- Promote the development of a Decentralized renewable energy system to strengthen and provide redundancy to the current electrical service
