(Communication generated by P&G) | February 13, 2019, San Juan, Puerto Rico – With the aim of contributing to the development and well-being of Puerto Rican families, Procter & Gamble (P&G) awarded $30,000 in grants from its community assistance program, the P&G Fund, to two nonprofit organizations in Puerto Rico—Niños de Nueva Esperanza in Toa Baja and Fundación Santa María de los Ángeles in Río Piedras. The donations will be used to fund community programs that promote a positive home environment, as well as better health and self-esteem for people in need.
For the past 19 years, the P&G Fund has awarded grants, which to date amount to over a million dollars, to dozens of community organizations throughout the Island, thereby contributing to a better quality of life for thousands of Puerto Rican families.
Freddie Hernández, General Manager of P&G Puerto Rico, visited both entities to deliver donations from the P&G Fund and learn more about their work and needs.“It is a privilege for me to be able to share closely with community leaders, who contribute so much to our society, and with the participants of the programs sponsored by the P&G Fund., “\[the executive] said."This fund was born from P&G's desire to be close to people and help improve their lives. To this day, that continues to be our purpose and it fills me with satisfaction to hear that we continue to make a positive difference.
This is the second consecutive year that the P&G Fund has made a donation to the organization Niños de Nueva Esperanza in Sabana Seca. The funds will be used to continue the “Wellness Spaces” program, which this year will consist of interactive workshops for children, adolescents, and the elderly on topics such as hygiene, nutrition, interpersonal relationships, and skill development for a safe home and healthy coexistence, among others.
“We appreciate the support of the P&G Fund to carry out this program, which to date has allowed us to impact 400 people and address pressing health and healthy coexistence needs in our community.”I said, Michelle Rodriguez, Executive Director of Children of New Hope.
For its part, the Santa María de los Ángeles Foundation will use the funds to develop a module of workshops on self-care, disease prevention, hygiene, self-esteem, puberty, and setting boundaries. These workshops will be offered in schools, communities, and organizations in various parts of the island, impacting thousands of children, young people, and parents.
“Through the Self-Care Program, we aim to foster the development of people who believe in their abilities, are assertive, take care of their bodies, and raise children with self-esteem.. We firmly believe that the development of self-confident individuals is the key to achieving positive change in Puerto Rico.” commented Dr. Yariza Cartagena and Dr. Viviana Barrón, psychologists in charge of the Psychoeducation and Clinical Supervision programs at the Santa María de los Ángeles Foundation.".
The P&G Fund operates in affiliation with the Puerto Rico Community Foundation. Beneficiary entities are selected through a call for proposals and selection process. For more information about the P&G Fund, non-profit organizations can contact the Puerto Rico Community Foundation at 787-721-1037.
