The Puerto Rico Community Foundation announced the opening of the call for applications for Gualasia Scholarship Fund, an initiative that provides supplementary economic support to university students from Jayuya and Utuado interested in pursuing studies in disciplines related to agricultural sciences, agronomy, agricultural genetics, biotechnology, pedagogy, and other related fields.

As part of this new call for applications, the Fund is expanding its scope to include education students from Jayuya, particularly those interested in integrating the STEM approach into their educational practices.

The scholarship provides supplemental annual financial aid to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at accredited institutions within or outside Puerto Rico. Awards may start at a minimum of $3,000 per year and are renewable for up to four years, subject to meeting academic requirements and the availability of funds.

Additionally, the program includes further support opportunities for summer courses and internship or externship experiences related to the student's field of study.

Some Eligibility Criteria

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Being a permanent resident of Puerto Rico and from Jayuya or Utuado.
  • Maintain a minimum academic index of 2.50.
  • To be enrolled full-time at an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrate economic necessity, community leadership, and commitment to the development of Puerto Rico
